BMW is recalling 42,080 older model 3 Series cars in the U.S. — about 220,000 worldwide — because the passenger air bag could explode too forcefully and send metal or plastic shrapnel flying at the passenger.

At the 24 hrs Daytona, the 01 Prototype from Ganassi Racing won, powered by a Dinan-Prepared BMW Riley. 2013 will be the tenth season for Dinan Engineering in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series .2013 also marks the 41st. anniversary of BMW Motorsport . Ganassi Racing, with Pruett and Rojas capturing their fifth championship as teammates (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013).

Board/Membership Meeting Minutes

Sunday January 20, 2013

Meeting called to order at 1:00pm.

Elections:

The newly elected Board Members of Green Mountain Chapter are George Ohlweiler-President, Peter Ohlweiler-Vice-President, Dana “Carmine” Cole-Treasurer and Eric Herbert-Secretary. The non-elected Board Members include Valerie Swinchoski-Membership Chair, Zancy VonHooks-Communication Director, Nick Parente-Webmaster and Andres Avalle-Yodler Editor.

The Board would like to thank all of you who voted.

Old Business:

Due to the absence of Carmine Cole, George reported that OktoberFAST made a modest profit of about $325.00. We also received funds from John Sullivan from the North Atlantic Region. Our usual contribution of $500.00 was made to the Townsend Food Shelf in Townsend, VT.

New Business:

Membership:

George announced that the annual Membership Drive from National is in full swing. Members can earn points by signing up NEW members. Complete details are available at www.bmwcca.org or in your latest Roundel.

As promised, the Board heard discussion about a “New Member Handbook”. Input from all in attendance gave us a good foundation to work with and we will be using ideas from other Chapters to put the handbook together. Everyone was in agreement that the handbook should be 4 color issue. To help offset the costs of this, we will be seeking advertising from area VT businesses. Peter Ohlweiler will concentrate on northern VT (Rutland & north), George Ohlweiler will concentrate on southern VT. If you own a business or know someone that may like to take advantage of this opportunity please contact Peter at pete@rutlandmotorcars.com or George at info@vtbmwcca.org. Members who advertise in this handbook will be given a discounted rate. A complete rate schedule and ad drafts will be available soon and posted on our website www.vtbmwcca.org. The initial publishing will be mailed to ALL Green Mountain Chapter Members. The Board voted unanimously to target April 1,2013 for completion.

In the absence of Nick Parente, Andres updated us on the continued changes and improvements being made to our website. Along with the appearance changes, Nick has added a “Classified Ad” page. This page is open to ALL Members FREE of charge and should be submitted to Nick at Parentemobile@gmail.com. Remember, pictures are worth a thousand words. We also have new video programs courtesy of David Rose, Hitting Redline.

Starting immediately, all Chapter Board meeting minutes will be posted on the website. We will be including area events on the website to show you what is happening around the North Atlantic area.Our website is one of the best in BMW CCA. Visit us.

Nick and Andres will also be reworking our Facebook page in the near future.

Yodler:

As our new Editor of Yodler, Andres in proceeding to make chenges in the format and content. Andres is looking for people to write quarterly columns or even articles of interest for the Members. Each new issue will include a letter from the editor, an updated calendar of events and a letter from the Webmaster.

There was much discussion about renaming Yodler. The consensus of opinion was to open this subject to the entire Membership. The Board has decided to let any Member submit their idea for “Name the Yodler” contest. All submitted ideas will be discussed by the Board and the top 5 will be posted on the website for voting. The author of the winning name will be awarded a FREE lunch at any upcoming meeting and a BMW CCA Grill Badge. Email your idea to info@vtbmwcca.org.

Events 2013:

As requested by National, the following annual event dates have been etched in stone. Dust Off & Detail, Rutland Motorcars, April 13^th, Manchester Antique & Classic Car Show, June 8^th & 9^th, Island Tour hosted by Val & Rick Swinchoski, July 20^th and OktoberFAST , September 27^th to 29^th.

The above events are scheduled as usual except for OktoberFAST. The decision to hold our OFAST event in September stemmed from the request of Patroon Chapter and North Atlantic Region to consider the Vintage at Saratoga Event (normally held in summer) is being combined with the Vintage BMW CCA and being held over a 10 day period in October. Moving our dates allowed all members to participate in both events as their own schedule may allow.

The change of our OktoberFAST event in the past two years has presented both praise and challenge. The praises come from those whom have enjoyed the spectacular site at Grafton Pond. The most adverse reaction is the limited extracurricular activity available for non car attendees. In response to this we have been invited to enjoin our OktoberFAST event with both the Octoberfest event at Mount Snow and the 2013 Independent Television Festival & Horizon Film Festival being held in West Dover, VT September 26 to 29. The Mount Snow invitation is exciting but does conflict with the dates for Vintage at Saratoga. The 2013 Independent Television Festival & Horizon Film Festival being held in September is a first for the Vermont area. This festival has been held previously in Los Angeles, CA for the past 8 years. This is the first time it will be held on the east coast. The festival typically attracts 5,000 to 6,000 people. They have conservatively reduced their expectation to half since it is their first show on the east coast. We will be totally supported in all aspects and at no charge to the Chapter. All we need to supply is a great support of cars, BMW’s and our other German car friends. The festival will offer various art and vendor displays along with a music stage with live bands. We will be displayed on Main Street in West Dover for public consumption.

After much discussion the Board and Members have voted to pursue the “ITVFest” for our annual OktoberFAST event. More information on this event will be posted on our website as it becomes available.

Our first Street Survival School of 2013 will be held in June at Stratton Mountain Resort. The exact date is being scheduled. Peter is also arranging other dates in the northern area (Plattsburg, NY) for a future event in 2013.

The Board is looking to hold an Autocross event for the summer of 2013. If you have any interest in this event, please reply by return email to info@vtbmwcca.org.
